Horsemanship

Horsemanship Club

Our monthly horsemanship club hosts youth who are interested in learning more about horses and are willing to pitch in and help, be trustworthy and to treat others (human and animal) with consideration, responsibility and respect.

Members do NOT have to have their own horse, although some do and others hope to someday.

Most meetings start with an educational session dealing with some aspect of horse care or horsemanship. The second hour, members usually get to work hands-on with the horses (grooming, training, riding, etc.) At various times, members have traveled to Extreme Mustang Makeover events, educational horse fairs, taken part in volunteer work, and observed and/or competed in Obstacle Challenge Courses.

Beginning Horsemanship Lesson Sets

Lesson sets are offered on a limited basis with the help of our youth trainees. Students learn not only  the basics of riding, but of horse psychology, care, and ground work as well as helping to groom and tack up (prepare the horse for riding) in a flexible, family-oriented format in which friends and family members can share lesson time.

We enjoy helping students develop in happy, confident horsemanship. Our philosophy is to move slower rather than faster; we want our children to be thoroughly comfortable with what they have learned before moving on. Students’ speed in progress will vary, but to us, success is seeing them work in partnership with the horses with everyone being relaxed and having fun together in safe ways.

Horse Mini-Camps

Our camps, usually held during school breaks or on long weekends, are limited in both size and cost, with a great mentor/camper ratio.  Working together in small teams, a positive attitude and encouragement of one another is emphasized. Campers aged 8-19 take part in riding and horsemanship, games, crafts, chores, music, devotions, and group activities.
