Apprenticeship Program

Some are preparing for an upcoming move to the country. Others are settled in the city but want their children to experience country life and to develop responsibility, reliability, patience and sensitivity through farm chores.

As apprentices move through the apprenticeship program (every week on their designated day, rain or shine, hot or cold), they will not only be coached in the tasks needed to take good care of the livestock, but in their understanding of and ability to work with the animals themselves. They learn the satisfaction of working hard and doing a good job as well as the need to listen and carefully follow directions.

Involvement in manual/hands-on labor and animal care can increase students’ attention span, sharpen their observation skills, and help them develop efficiency and organization. Each participant is encouraged to start a farm notebook to help them solidify their learning through reflection.
